One Word

What caused this?
One word--Max!  Can you believe anything with this face could cause that much damage?  He is so sweet one minute and the next he is sneaking into the knitting basket on little stealthy paws.  In this case he was sleeping in my lap while I was knitting.  He crawled up and gave me a kiss on the chin, rolled over and snuggled me, then jumped down to get a drink of water.  At least that is what I thought he was going to do.  For two beats.  Then I saw the yarn stretched all over the floor and wrapped around the coffee table legs.  Max sat, smiling at me, in the middle of the rubble.
Macy is totally another type of dog.  She was six months old when she came to live with us.  We received her as a gift from a couple who discovered that they were not prepared for the high energy of a Jack Russell Terrier after paying a hefty price for her highness with all her royal papers.  We did our JRT research before we accepted her and were a little worried about the description of living with what was described as a "turbo dog."

On the first night she lived with us she did indeed turbo.  That's when a JRT races through the house, bouncing off beds, over chairs, around tables, over the back of the couch--for what seems like hours.  That night it was only about 10 minutes before we intervened .  When I grabbed her as she flashed by me her little feet and legs were still churning.  Nine years later she is still doing it--as recently as last night.

Even with all that energy Macy has never, NEVER done her business in the house, chewed up furniture or clothing or otherwise made a mess.  Max has done all those things and more. One word: Max.  Original mess maker.  Little rip up artist.  Sneaky yarn killer.  Max!!

Knitting?  EZ sleeves and Corinne.  Woo-hoo short rows!!

Confessions

I confess that I shy away from patterns that say "short row" anywhere within the pattern.  I've done short rows, sometimes well and other times not so well.  I would rather turn sock heels, knit intricate lace patterns, or tackle nupps, but don't throw short rows at me!  Well, in the spirit of catching up with other knitters and learning something new I am casting on for Corinne Cardigan by Crystal Junkins and accepting the challenge of short rows!  (Check the link and see how cute)!  I'm using this beautiful Rouge Knit Picks DK weight wool.  This is a peachy, pinky, peony-ish Spring for me.

I confess that I am stuck in the sweater mode.  Don't know what brought this on because I have been only an occasional sweater knitter in the past.  Now I find myself looking for sweater patterns: vests, cardigans, wraps, jackets, pullovers and so on.  I tried to cast on for the Rock Island Lace Scarf by Jared Flood but it didn't work and I was back to the sweater in about 10 minutes.  I guess I just have to get it out of my system.

Today's post is dedicated to my wonderful Grandchildren.  Wonder of wonders they read my blog!!  They are interested in Grandma enough to want to know what is going on in my life.  They also want to know what I am knitting for them on any given day (especially at Christmas).  What a lucky lady I am!!

However...

I confess that occasionally I think about stopping the blog because although it has a lot of hits there are few comments.  I consider the possibility that only a few read it or that it is so deadly dull, no one cares.   During the last few months, however, I realized that I missed not posting my thoughts and the goings-on here in the Comfort Zone.  So I've decided that if DD and the GKs ( and faithful friends Kathyb and Grace) are the only ones who read these ramblings that's enough for me.  Anyway, the GKs get a kick out of telling their friends, "My Grandmother has a blog."  That makes me a cool old lady!

Is It Spring Yet?

Today is THE day and I have dug out from under a mountain of paperwork.  I'm just beginning to realize that the weather is getting warmer, the plants are blooming and the grass needs mowing.  When did that happen?  This slow down in my life happens every year about this time but this year I have even had trouble finding time for knitting--forget about enjoying the seasonal changes!  I finally took a lunch time moment to find buttons for the blue sweater.  It needed seven, an odd number don't you think?  Swarovski didn't let me down though.  They served me ten blue crystal buttons in a package and they are perfection!

In the past weeks I have found myself picking up the EZ cardigan for a row or two in the evening before falling asleep in my chair.  DH will come along and ask, "Why don't you just go to bed?"  I usually make a comment about it being too early and go back to one more row of the sweater.  I can tell you for sure I'm looking forward to some finishing time on this one!  My Mom used to say, "This too will pass" and I know that is true.

I frequently post photos of the dogs Macy and Max.  Since things have stalled knittingwise  and they continue to get cuter every day I guess it is okay to post another picture of them!  Here they are in the office double teaming me for a relief trip outside.  You see those bottom shelves on the bookcase?  They are usually filled with stacks of client files.  All gone!!  It is April 15th baby and even though IRS has given us until April 18th to file this year (does anyone know what Emancipation Day is?) none of our clients want to wait.  So in essence, it's over!!

Life is good.
