Wool Gathering

My Mom used to say that I was the best wool gatherer she knew.  My ability to daydream or just generally goof off is legendary!  I love the fact that knitting gives me a perfect excuse to go wandering in my mind even though wool gathering and numbers do not seem to mix well.  I can tell you that daydreaming and accounting are breeds apart!!  Anyway, there hasn’t been any wool gathering going on lately.  End-of-year went smoothly except for the software glitch that was solved with a little innovative action and now we are breezing into tax season with hardly a crisis to show for it.  That’s the good news!!

The bad news is that year-end work has left me little time for knitting.  Even at my desk (my favorite place to knit) it is hard to find a minute to knit a few stitches.  I think that means that I am working with resolve as I once did so I can give the appearance that I am not in the least interested in retirement.  I like keeping people guessing!

Lately I’ve heard statements like, “I haven’t heard you mention once how much you hate doing this.  Why is that?”  Answer, “Oh, it’s not so bad.”  DH said, “You haven’t been complaining.  I’m proud of you!”  Answer, “Thank you.  I think it is important to just get the job done.  Complaining doesn’t solve anything.”  Ahhh, I love the look of complete bewilderment on their faces!”  If I can’t be free to sit and knit I can at least play with their minds!

Nope no wool gathering is being done here, but no knitting either.  I’ve started another pair of fingerless mitts and am working intermittently on the peapod baby sack and matching hat for maybe 10-15 minutes a day and that’s it.  I hope the knitting deities will forgive me because the wool gathering spirits are not even speaking to me right now!!

Macy and Max had baths and are drying in the sun.  Max wants back in.  I think he has work to do.

Running Behind

I promised myself I would post more often this year and I meant it.  I just should have qualified that by saying “after tax season.”  That isn’t even half of the problem though; sweet granddaughter was back in the hospital last week leading to lots of running, many delays, and bunches of catch-up!!  Blogging, sleeping, working—it all went out the window.  BTW those of you who have sent prayers and healing thoughts our way, I just wanted to thank you and tell you they are working!  The Docs think they have found the problem (a compressed artery that requires a stent) and she is on the road to mending.

BUT there has been knitting!  I finished the camo mitts and gave them to the girl as a get-out-of-the-hospital-soon gift.  I also started the peapod snuggle sack for the soon-to-be baby, which will be matched by a hat with leaf embellishment.  I have yarn for the berry pie hat on order.  Add to those another baby blanket and a sweater to match and the BIG gift, not named because she sometimes reads my posts, and I will be ready for the baby shower.  If I can figure out how to get the work in the office done I will be home free—totally daffy but home free!!

In the middle of all of this DH stopped to remind me it was Valentine’s Day.
I’ve made a decision through all of this, when I get to heaven I intend to ask God to put an extra star in the crown of the person who invented the crockpot!!  We would not have hot food if not for the crockpot.  From oatmeal in the morning to soup with a chunk of focaccia or a salad for dinner, the crockpot is my food backup.  When we came home around 8:00 a few nights ago this chicken and wild rice was my reward for a day of hard work and running!!

Speaking of heaven, have you seen the Weight Watchers Ice Cream Candy Bars?  I had one for lunch with an apple and if you are a caramel, chocolate, nuts fanatic like me you will love them!!  I can’t wait until tomorrow to have another!  About Weight Watchers--41.5 pounds and it’s still working.

Life is good!
