WOW Weekend!

Some weekends are better than others and as it turns out this last one was a WOW weekend.  We finished the major portion of the work that has been going on for the last three weeks, and seeing a light at the end of the tunnel I allowed myself a little fun and a lot of relaxation.

First, I went to the farmers market for veggies and fruit.  When I asked for cherries, they explained that I am looking at a very small window of opportunity in Texas.  One of the farmers took pity on me and offered a substitute—cotton candy grapes.  At his direction we went to the organic market a few blocks away and asked for cotton candy grapes, fully expecting to be laughed at but there they were AND they do taste like cotton candy.  DD asked why the old fashioned grape taste wasn’t good enough and I had to admit that sweet is what I’m looking for!  If you have a sweet tooth like me and you want to satisfy the craving without tons of calories, you might want to try them.

The next wow thing was dinner that night after the organic market and farmers market.  We had lime crusted Tilapia,

curly kale with peppered bacon and leeks, 

and jalapeno (from the garden) cornbread cooked on the outdoor grill.

I have been skipping a lot of lunches while working so I took this opportunity to make a piggy of myself!

A trip to the garden shop a few blocks away gave me some insight on why we don’t have any cucumbers in our garden.  The bees are not pollinating the flowers. “ Yo bees!  What’s the problem?”  They told me I could pollinate the flowers myself by rubbing the male flower (without the bulb at the base—go figure) against the female flower.  Okay, I’m as adventurous as the next person so I went out into the garden and, uh-hem, assisted the cucumber buds with their mating ritual.  Did I imagine someone hanging over our fence with a camera?  I eagerly await the baby cucumbers!!

Finally I sat on the patio when the evening cooled a bit and drank iced tea while knitting and reading—reading and knitting.  The Hummingbirds put on a dancing show that was breathtakingly beautiful.   Dancing With The Stars eat your hearts out!

Life is so good that Macy and Max think it is worth howling about.
